Serbia have won the Davis Cup for the first time after beating France, the nine-times champions, 3-2 in the final in Belgrade. The world No30, Viktor Troicki, secured the win with a straight-sets victory over Michael Llodra, the world No23, in the final singles match.

Troicki, 24 and a native of Belgrade, was selected ahead of Janko Tipsarevic to face Llodra. He won the match 6-2, 6-2, 6-3.

Earlier, Novak Djokovic beat Gaƫl Monfils to level the tie at 2-2. Djokovic won 6-2, 6-2, 6-4 in the first reverse singles of the best-of-five series. Djokovic, the world No3, breezed through the first two sets, breaking the 12th-ranked Monfils twice in each.

"I don't know if I had a chance," said Monfils, who has now lost all six matches he has played against Djokovic. "He was better than me tonight."
