Photograph: Julian Finney/Getty Images Roger Federer continued his late-season good form with an emphatic 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 victory over the world No1, Rafael Nadal, to win the end-of-season ATP World Tour Finals.
Federer, ranked No2 in the world, took the title on his second championship point with a forehand that landed just inside the baseline at the O2 Arena.
His victory denied Nadal the one title of note that he has yet to win and made sure that the Swiss ended the season on a high, having started it back in January with victory at the Australian Open.
Federer looked sharp throughout the match, taking the first set having got a crucial break to take a 5-3 lead, leaving him only to serve out.
Nadal rallied in the second set, taking advantage of a few loose Federer forehands to take a 3-1 lead and then hold serve comfortably to win 6-3, before Federer hit a barrage of winners in the final set to coast to a 6-1 victory and a £1m prize.
